A Comprehensive Guide to Recovery After a Scottsdale Mommy Makeover

Having a baby is an incredible experience, but it can have lasting effects on your body. Fortunately, there are options to help you get back to feeling like yourself again. A mommy makeover includes a combination of cosmetic surgeries tailored just for you so that you can look and feel your best post-pregnancy.

What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

The types of procedures available with this type of surgery vary from person to person, depending on their desired outcome and what areas they want addressed the most. These might include breast augmentation or reduction, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast lift, Brazilian butt lift, or labiaplasty. There are even non-surgical treatments!

What Is the Recovery Timeline?

One thing many women worry about when considering getting a mommy makeover is how long recovery will take — especially if they need time off work or childcare arrangements made during the healing process.

Depending on which procedures were chosen as part of the procedure plan, it could be anywhere from several days to several weeks before returning to normal activities and daily routines. You’ll want to discuss these details with your surgeon prior to the procedure so that everything goes smoothly once it’s time for recovery.

A Few Examples To Note

Recovery from a mommy makeover isn’t always quick, but if you prepare, your recovery may go faster. It depends on the number of procedures you have done and your body’s natural recovery rate.

Here’s an approximate timeline for the most common treatments:

  • Breast Lift/Augmentation – Back to work within days; no strenuous exercise or lifting for six weeks
  • Liposuction – Resume activities the next day; no strenuous exercise or lifting for six weeks
  • Tummy Tuck – Two-week break before returning to work; avoid intense physical activity at least 6 weeks after surgery

Preparing for Surgery: Essential Tips

We have put together a list of essential tips to help you prepare for your operation! Follow these tips to make your recovery smoother.

  • Create a Cozy Space: Designate an area where you can rest comfortably and without interruption. Invest in extra pillows, such as a full-body pillow, so that your whole body is supported when lounging or sleeping.
  • Put the Essentials Within Reach: Put items such as snacks, beverages, books/magazines, and any hobbies within easy reach of your bed or recliner; this way you won’t have to worry about getting up during important rest periods.
  • Take Care of Yourself: Make sure to take care of yourself before the procedure by eating healthy food and getting plenty of sleep beforehand; it’ll help ensure quicker healing times afterward!

Immediately After the Surgery

A mommy makeover is generally an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be heading home the same day as your surgery with compression garments and some pain meds. You can’t drive yourself home, so arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up afterward.

You should line up childcare for at least a week after the operation, as taking narcotic-based pain medication could be necessary. Then switch over to NSAIDs (Motrin or Advil) if needed. During this time, it’s important not to lift anything heavier than 5 pounds until 6 weeks post-op have passed. Light duties like cooking and helping with homework are fine!

If you have a tummy tuck, staying bent at the waist is mandatory for two weeks following surgery, so try sleeping in a recliner on your back or side!

The First Six Weeks

Bruising, swelling, and tenderness can last anywhere from 1-6 weeks after surgery – but don’t worry! These are normal side effects that you should take time to rest and recover from.

Complications such as infection are rare – however, it’s best to stay vigilant by following all of our instructions for post-op care where possible (including avoiding swimming for a few weeks). Keep wearing compression garments too! You may be able to return to work in 2-3 weeks once you’re feeling better again.

After 6 Weeks

At around 6 weeks or 2 months post-op, you’ll be able to start getting back into your regular activities and exercise routine. By this point, the swelling should’ve reduced enough for you to see your results. We will check up on you at a 6-month follow-up appointment after the procedure so that everything is going as planned.
